Parents’ Misconceptions about Sex Education

In our society, sex education is still often considered taboo. However, in Islam, this is very important to teach. Islam teaches us about proper dress, maintaining modesty, and boundaries in social interactions between men and women. All of this is actually part of sex education.

Sex education doesn’t mean discussing inappropriate topics, but rather providing children with an understanding of how to protect themselves. For example, introducing the concept of modesty from a young age, teaching children to ask permission before entering someone else’s room, or understanding proper bathing etiquette. These lessons can be conveyed in language that is easy to understand and appropriate for their age.

Providing an understanding of the body is also important. Children need to know which parts of their body should be protected and which should not be touched by others. This way, they can be more alert and protected from harm. Furthermore, sex education in Islam also teaches responsibility, so children grow up with an awareness of the importance of maintaining their own dignity and that of others.

As parents, we need to establish open and comfortable communication. Don’t let children seek answers from the wrong sources, such as social media or less knowledgeable peers. By providing the right education, we not only protect children from risks, but also help them understand how noble Islamic teachings are in maintaining purity and honor.
